DJ Bassnectar is a freeform electronic music producer and a DJ based in Santa Cruz, California. Born as Lorin Ashton, he is known for his lively sets of performance, light shows and community engagement. In his early years while navigating in music scene, he was influenced by metal and rock bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Nirvana. In 1995, he played bass for an American death metal band "Exhumed". Soon after, as a DJ, he toured around the United States including performances at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 2011 and 2012 as well a special performance each New Year's Eve.
DJ Bassnectar played as a bass guitarist in a band, he launched the inaugural Bass Island event, the first of a trilogy, which was held at Governor's Island in New York City. 10,000 attended the event and included supporting acts from Lupe Fiasco and DJ Z-Trip. Bassnectar showed his support to the nation and he has been a strong advocate of charity. In 2011, he donated $1 from every ticket sold on his tour to charity via the "Dollar Per Basshead" campaign.
